Lucuma Lovin’
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Woop woop! Weekend
I hope you all have a good one planned. Today I thought I’d just drop in with a little post on lucuma after a couple of people have commented that they are interested in knowing a bit more about it since I think you all know my love of this superfood, it is an amazing food in my opinion. I know that some superfoods are over-rated and overpriced and their qualities as a superfood are questioned, but the flavour of lucuma just makes it special enough to ignore the fact that it’s even a superfood!

Lucuma is actually a fruit that looks like the picture above, also known as ‘eggfruit’ and is found mostly in Peru and has a creamy silk texture and sweet taste.

It normally comes in powder form and is mostly used as a low GI sweetener, giving a sweet caramelly flavour to recipes. It’s loaded with vitamin B3 – the nutrient known to aid depression (as do nuts – you can see why I turned to raw food in my recovery…) It is rich in fiber, iron and carotene. It is also packed with antioxidants and studies suggest it may have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and skin repair effects on human skin. So all in all, it’s good stuff
And not to mention, damn tasty!

A couple of days ago I was rummaging around my cupboards for something snacky and found these lucuma pieces that I’d managed to get hold of – a very rare find! I didn’t know that lucuma could come in this form as I’ve always had it just in powder form. These are just incredible <3
Lucuma in it’s powder form is normally used in things like smoothies, raw ice cream, chocolates, fudge and other raw desserts.
Try my simple fudge for example or go to my bestie who actually introduced me to lucuma soon after we met who makes the most amazing fudge (in cute fishy shapes!) with cocoa butter and I’ve been using her technique ever since
Have you ever tried lucuma?
Fave fruit?
