Ramble, Buys and Pizza Bites

Hello helloo :)

So, in light of my last post I’d like to say thankyou to the supporters of you out there and well, to the people who kinda shot me down with comments reminding me of my ED history, well honestly? I really don’t care what you think.

Sorry to be blunt but that’s how I see those kind of comments these days. Anyone who knows me in real life knows that my ED is pretty much a thing of the past. Yes I have bad body image days and sometimes I may have days where I get upset when I feel like I’ve over-eaten but these are rare and I can 100% tell you all that I am no longer that person with an eating disorder and I prefer to keep in the past. I do not have food fears and my new choice of diet is not a shift in my fears from fats to carbs in the slightest. It has simply stemmed from inspiration from reading on nutrition (I recommend the Metabolic Typing Diet which is why I have changed my diet mostly as well as continuing digestive/skin issues). Anyone could tell you how much I love carbs – um hello, my fave foods are kabocha and chickpeas?! It is simply an experiment for my health and like Laura did a wonderful post explaining pretty much a similar thing, I write this blog for my own journey really. I don’t write everything and no one will ever see the full story because well, I’m not that kind of blogger. I just write about things randomly and I’m not telling anyone how they should eat or exercise or dress or anything. We are all individual!

I am proud that I inspire some people out there that it is possible to recover from an eating disorder and be happy and healthy, because I am! And because I am recovered it means I can afford to play around with my diet more with no negative drive behind it. In recovery it is all about getting a balance of nutrients and I must stress that. People who I try to help who are trying to recover will always see that my approach is to have a balanced diet because that is how the body can recover. And I can assure you that anything I do is only with my best interest because like I said in my last post, who doesn’t want to be at their healthiest?! And you know what? Yeah, I eat healthy and exercise because I also want to look good, I admit that! I am a young female of dating age and of course I’m entitled to want to look good as well as feel good like any other 20 odd year old!

Okay, so there’s my piece :)

So as you will probably all gather, uni is taking up the majority of my life at the moment but I always make time for my gym sessions and a bit of shopping of course! I must say though, I’ve not been so inspired by the shops recently in terms of clothes – maybe just a phase. So instead I went out buying new gym stuff which I prefer to wear all the time whenever possible anyway unless I am meeting people or have to go into uni with all these fashionable people…

I bought myself some new Asics as my old ones were getting holes where my big toes were?! Weird! I am usually limited to Asics because a) they provide stability for my stupid feet which are prone to tendonitis and b) most other brands start at a UK size 4 and I am a 3. I know, baby feet. The only trouble with these though is that whilst I am still doing a bit of sprinting, these are not the best shoes for weightlifting. So if anyone could suggest some shoes that provide support whilst running as well as are good for weight lifting that would be much appreciated ;)

This weekend I also popped into the new TK Maxx in town. It really is looking so much better! I don’t usually shop in TK Maxx I might add, but it is great for kitchenware and also gym wear. I don’t usually find any clothes there…

So I decided to treat myself to some new gym clothes to go with my new shoes! :)

I also picked up this new ketchup that I’m seriously addicted to. It goes with anything! Kinda sweet but spicy at the same time, love it!

And other foodie bits, well the usuals really. Still loving protein cake things – just one scoop of whey (I used this graham cracker one which is amazinggg) with one whole egg with a bit of baking powder and pow! Protein yum :)

IMG_3716And of course raw food is still my love! I’ve been having raw chocolates every day which I just make up at the weekends and put in my freezer but I also made these raw pizza bites when I was fed up of working during the week.

Raw Pizza Bites

½ cup ground pumpkin seeds

¼ cup + 1 tbsp nutritional yeast

¼ cup sunflower seeds

1 ½ salad tomatoes

2 dried sundried tomatoes

½ tsp ground garlic

2 tbsp pea protein

Ground up the pumpkin seeds first and then simply add the rest of the ingredients into the food processor, roll into balls using an ice cream scoop and dehydrate over night until hard. They’d be nice crumbled up on salads too! I added a bit of pea protein just to bump up the protein a bit for me but if you don’t have any pea protein, hemp protein or non-flavoured Sun Warrior would work or I’m sure just more nuts/seeds would work too :)

What have you been up to this weekend?

Fave kind of pizza?!

    • No, in the Metabolic Typing Diet book there is a test you can take that can lead you in the right direction :)

  1. I’ll be honest, I’m kind of in a hurry and I just skimmed through this post but I love that you spoke about the “I wanna look good” aspect of healthy eating! People ask me why I eat healthy and I used to bullshit something not to sound vain, but the truth is.. eating healthy keeps my skin clear, hair shiny, keeps me in shape and there’s no denying that when you’re young as me and you are you jsut wanna look good!!!! Is it disordered? NO!!!!! People need to understand that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good!! Ok, if you’re miserable and starving yourself then I agree there can be a problem with wanting to be perfect. But there’s nothing wrong with passing on carbs or having fat-free yogurt once in a while.. I don’t really know how to explain it, but really you’re healthy and you don’t need to listen to the negative commenters :) <3

I love your new shoes. I hope that the colorful gym shoe trend doesn’t go away soon.

  3. I’m glad you’re dealing with negative comments in that way these days and also happy to hear you’ve found what works for you. Actually, I’ve been trying to stop focusing meticulously on macros lately, too. Just trying to listen to my body’s needs and eating what I felt like proved to be more pronounced on the fats, too. You may or may not have made me feel better about this so thanks! I still am rather wary of “too much” fat but reading your post made me think that maybe it’s just okay that way.

Asics shoes really are great, aren’t they? Too bad you don’t have much choice with your feet, though. Companies should start offering more shoes for those of us with special needs.

  4. It’s great that you are dealing with the negative comments with so much positivity by just ignoring them, good for you! I love TK Maxx for home and gym stuff, you can find some great things in there.

Love this. It is so true. I mean, just because people recovered from an ED does not mean they have to eat junk all the time to prove to others that they are “normal”. Having a healthy relationship with food includes taking care of your body and feeding it the right stuff. I am not a huge fan of high protein diets though, since too much protein can be harmful too. Everything in balance, right?

  6. I love TKMaxx!! It’s my fave shop for gymware and kitchenware hands down! You can also pick up the odd cool t shirt but :-) I’ve never tried pea protein – i bet it tastes so much better than blummin hemp protein! I”ve got a jar of hemp protein in the cupboard. Bleurgh!! The ONLY thing I enjoy it in is the Twins’ protein mint thins. I’ll need to make a thousand of the things to get the jar used up unless you would make use for it? :-) Love xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  7. I still haven’t been in the TKMaxx in the town, I must have a look! Thanks for the shout out as well, as you say we all need to find out way, and actually, wanting to look good and eating and exercising for that is ok, and I think in a lot of HLB it has become a big no no for some reason. I do metabolic typing with my clients but would like to read that book for more background. I’m definitely a protein type!

Ahh I’m so loving raw treats right now.
Making raw chocolate to freeze for throughout the week<- I want to do this!
Are you able to share your raw choc recipe?
    Xxx

  9. I’m proud of you for ignoring the haters. Honestly, you have a long enough history with EDs to recognize the signs when they appear, so if you feel that you are recovered, don’t let someone else tell you otherwise. Recovery is such a personal thing and nobody does it the same way. I wrote a post recently about it and got a lot of insights from other bloggers. Where do you draw the line between having disordered habits and just putting a lot of thought into your food choices and occasionally struggling with your body image. I’m pretty sure that every woman on the planet has bad body image days. If there is a woman out there who doesn’t, I need her secret, NOW.
