Sick Week
Don’t ask about my face..I have clearly have gone insane recently after a bit of a weird week! Backtracking to last Tuesday I came back to my apartment after having a great time at home for Christmas and New Year and then boom! On Wednesday I woke up with this weird vomiting virus thing so my plans of ‘getting back to normal’ were messed up from day one. Oh and just perfect timing for my last driving lesson before my test on Friday. Almost puked all over the car yikes! Thursday I improved a little in terms of the virus but then I started to get a cold, flu type thing. Nooo this couldn’t be happening right before my frickin test!! So Thursday I barely slept due to a lovely feeling of knives stuck down my throat along with nerves for my test.
BUT I PASSED YEAH! So even though I was feeling pretty crappy for my test afterwards I was on a high so it didn’t bother me so much. Oh and I totally believe that the reason why I was so up and ready and focused for my test was because I had my favourite breakfast that day..
Ummm only Perk!er gingerbread porridge!! The lovely Ann and Steve from Perk!er sent me this as a little Christmas present which I came back to after New Year and I was so excited! This definitely cheered me up at 6.30 in the morning and the ginger I thought would help with my cold and it obviously worked so thanks guys!
I went straight back home this weekend to pick up my car despite feeling even worse. I’ve barely slept because of coughing so hard which is not a good thing for me given that normally I sleep a lot! I only get colds once or twice a year, but when I do they are stinkers and last for a while so I’m planning on doing very little for a while given that whenever I try to even do any exercise I have a coughing fit and can’t breathe!
I’m glad I’ve got my car though as I’ve just been able to chill out and relax with my fave magazine.
My mum thoughtfully got me a subscription to Zest for Christmas and my first one came today eeee!
And of course along with putting my feet up under my blanket, good food always helps. I’ve actually been experimenting a little since the New Year with new things in my diet in terms of increasing the protein again to help with my weight training (which will start once I’m better grrr!) but I thought I’d get myself used to it now. Basically just more shakes with raw salads with chickpeas and nuts..
Oh and I’ve currently got myself obsessed with nutritional yeast. This is coming from the girl who used to hate it! I’m just putting mass amounts on everything it’s so good!
And experimenting with protein bars. I’ve never really been a big protein bar fan really..I probably ate more during my recovery like Luna bars as they’re easy snacks to have and take around with you, but especially not recently as I’ve been preferring raw nuts and dried fruit, chocolate, kale chips and greek yogurt. Just more simple things I guess. But I thought I’d give them a go again just for a change and why not when I guess I eat pretty basic natural stuff the rest of the time.
So I ordered a box of The Simply Bars as they sell in the UK too and honestly? What a big mistake. I thought ‘caramel peanut yummm!’ but umm no. This bar did not even fill me up slightly. I actually ended up eating 4 of them in one go by mistake and I still wasn’t satisfied! They’re just like rice krispy bars with air..what a waste of a bar in my opinion. They may be low sugar and all natural and whatever but I would probably have to eat a box to satisfy my kind of hunger. So unfortunately I’m quickly trying to work my way through an entire box of these bloody things hmph!
I have to say one of my faves has to be the PhD diet whey bars, specifically in chocolate cookie flavour. I tried the chocolate orange one which tasted slightly odd but this one is good! And actually fills you up which is hard for me and my never ending hunger! So yeah, I’ll be treating to myself to a few of these in the week
Otherwiseeee…I am of course still loving raw foods. They will always be my love in terms of food. I’ve been making lots of crackers recently to go along with my salads but I treated myself to a couple of little goodies like these beet chips from iHerb.
Anddd of course raw is most special in the form of chocolate in my opinion which cannot ever leave my life because it’s just too amazing! So I got these caramel chocolates because they have lucuma in <3 Definitely my fave raw ingredient.
Right, anyway I’m off to read more magazines and rest up as well as enjoy every minute that I still have before I start uni soon!
Do you have a fave breakfast?
Do you like protein bars? What’s your fave bar?

I’m so happy that you passed your test! I kind of had an inkling that you would pass 1st time hehe. Sorry you’ve been so ill, that sounds horrible! Hope you manage to rest up and it passes really soon x
Congrats on the test and I hope you’re feeling better by now. I haven’t ever tried protein bars, but they may be a good idea.
Congratulations on passing your test again! Now you get to enjoy your cute new car. Get better soon. There seems to be a lurgy going around as I have been icky too. x
Aww, get well soon! I’ve had similar viruses back-to-back but I don’t think mine were quite as severe as yours. Even more amazing that you passed your test feeling so crappy though.
Ugh, I hated those Simply Bars…not because they weren’t filling, but because they tasted like artificial crap to me. I like the Vega Endurance bars (coconut/chocolate saviseed) but they are so expensive I don’t buy them any more…shame, because taste-wise they were way ahead of everything else.
I still love chocolate protein overnight oats for breakfast, using Sun Warrior, Vega Smoothie Infusion Chocolate and almond milk…oh, and sometimes peanut flour. I’ve only just been able to have it again after living on Nature’s Path Crispy Rice and a banana for ages due to tummy troubles and I’ve forgotten how much I missed it.
Well done on passing your test! Me and my boyfriend both have stinking colds at the moment too! Hope you feel better! That porridge sounds delicious as do the beet chips and raw choccies
I do tend to rely on clif or luna bars if I’m really busy and just need to grab something quick, they are pretty filling and taste amazing to boot! I want to try and make some of my own this year though.
Aww get better soon hun. winter vomiting virus, errr no THANKYOU! but big shout out for still managing to ace your driving test. what a star
My fave go-to breakfasts have got to be either porridge with lots of cinammon and chopped apple… OR when its not-so-cold a big bowl of some kindof oaty muesli with fruit and nuts….
Saying that, when i was in America this summer, my friends mum made us these amazing homemade waffles with blueberries baked in the mix, they were SOOOO good!!! x
Gingerbread porridge sounds so delicious!! I totally agree about the caramel peanut simply bars too! However, some of the flavours are really quite good! I love chocolate peanut, lemon coconut and cinnamon pecan the most!
Aww no! No sickness! Sorry to hear that you’re not feeling well, hun
Sooo many people seem to be getting sick lately, and although I’ve managed to avoid it up to this point, I’m kind of starting to get worried that I’m next. Eep. BUT CONGRATS ON YOUR TEST! Now you get to drive around in that adorable car of yours
I’m actually not too big on protein bars, mostly because a lot of them have peanuts (or traces of peanuts) and that doesn’t sit well with my allergies. Breakfast, though, is something I can definitely get behind… Yogurt with fruit, cereal, and AB has been my go-to for months now.
That is so weird. The Actor got a weird vomiting thing on wednesday, too, but we figure it was just food poisoning. Feel better!
I eat larabars right now because it’s what I have but I need to eat more protein bars. I am lacking in my protein.
Congrats on passing the driving test! Wheeee, know you can drive your pretty new car!
And I hope you’ll be fine soon and can hit the iron again. Love to read about your diet changes (since I switched back from a vegan diet nearly around the same time last year).
Hope you feel better soon! Congratulations on passing your test – I barely got through mine when I was feeling 100% ok.
I find protein bars quite hit and miss – I know they’re meant to be super filling but a few that I’ve tried haven’t filled me up in the slightest, glad to know I’m not the only one. I’m definitely going to try the PhD bar soon. x
Congrats again on passing! I bet you can’t wait to be cruising in your car
I hope you feel better soon though chick xxx speaking of raw desserts I still have a couple of your amazing raw bars in my freezer, yum yum! I am so stuck for a fave breakfast as I love so many different ones. I think at the moment its smoothies as the weather isn’t quite so cold.
Congrats on passing the driving test! Although being sick sucks – this week I had a horrible head cold, then had to get oral surgery, so I feel ya there!
I still have yet to find my perfect breakfast. But if I had to get close, it would probably be some kind of grain/quinoa porridge or oatmeal. Nothing else really fills me up quite enough.
Boo to sickness, there is so much going around at the moment
My perfect breakfast is porridge and crumpets- I don’t often get a morning snack or lunch until late so I rely on it for fuel!
xxx
CONGRATS on passing your test!
AWW so sorry you’re sick! Hopefully you’ll feel better soon
My favorite breakfast would have to be bran cereal with vanilla protein powder, peanut butter, jelly, and chopped up apples. GAH! SO GOOD!
My favorite protein bar of sort would be homemade peanut butter oat bars, but also Chocolate Brownie Cliff Bar!
Oh man everyone (including me) is sick! Hope you’re feeling better dear! On the bright side, at least you passed the driving test and can now drive your gorgeous new car
I am all about raw foods, I find that they satisfy my hunger needs the best. The less processed the better!
Get well soon <3
