Pictures from the Week

Heyy my lovies! I thought I’d just drop by and say hello because well..okay, I’m trying everything possible not to be doing any uni work or studying for my driving theory which is not going too well! It’s kinda stopping me from doing my practical test at the moment which I am ready for. I need a kick up the butt, seriously.

So umm what have I been up to? Does anyone else just look through the photos they’ve taken over the course of the week and see how it makes them who they are and how they live? Maybe just me but my photos just say ‘Nicky’ all over them haha!

So you won’t be surprised to know that this is occurring every evening at the moment…

Well, it is kabocha season afterall. Might as well make the most of it! I have been getting a few questions about how I prepare my squash recently. Well here’s kinda how. I use the biggest knife I have (I think it’s supposed to be for meat!) and use a bit of arm strength from weight training and it looks kinda like this :) I’m not such a big fan of the skin all the time so I cut it off but you can keep it on if you choose.

I’ve got into a..not a rut as such..but I’ve been having this dinner repeatedly throughout the week because it’s just what I crave right now. Not a problem in my books..I can eat what I want, when I want thanks :) Oh and that would be kabocha, quorn fillets cooked in curry spices and broccoli with coconut oil and garlic mmmm :)

This would happen quite a few times a day…berries and greek yogurt with pumpkin spice (that I got from NYC!). I’m trying to up my protein big style as well as my protein shake to go with my strength training and I’m already seeing gains in my first week! Feels amazing and my core is getting stronger too woooh!

Also started adding this back into my diet to add protein again but also with added B12 for muscle recovery ;) I used to hate the taste of nutritional yeast a year ago but it has definitely grown on me! Particularly good mixed into salsa I’ll have you know. Oh and check out how much better things look with my new camera haha!

And speaking of all this strength training, I got myself some sexy new gloves! ;) Anyone who does weights will know how it can make your hands hurt and get these lovely patches where the weights have rubbed your skin…given that I have sensitive skin anyway this just wrecked my hands after a day so I got myself some gloves and they work a treat!…as well as showing all the guys you mean business ;)

As per usual, raw food makes an appearance everyday and normally keeps me going through my monotonous uni work…

And on a final and totally random note..I was kind of shocked to already see Christmas lights up in Newcastle this weekend! I mean, we’ve not had Halloween quite yet crikey! I am excited for Christmas of course…it’s just the whole stress of present buying coming up arggh!

Nutritional yeast? Yay or nay?

Are you excited for Christmas or filled with dread over present buying?

I am excited for Christmas and this year I made a list of things to get people so that I don’t freak out too much over gift buying.

I love your new gloves. I need to get some myself.

mmm kabocha. yours always looks extra delish – i can never get mine to be roasted so nicely.
nutritional yeast = yay :) i like to sprinkle it on beans for an extra kick of flavor. And i’m SO excited for christmas. I feel like christmas decorations come out earlier and earlier each year. no complaints thought :)

  3. Ah, Nicky, you were the one who first introduced me to Kabocha Squash and its now a regular friend of mine at dinner. Have you ever tried Crown Prince Squash? Ive had it over the last week and it is SOOOOO good. Its pretty much the same as Kabocha but its a little sweeter – I actually prefer it over Kabocha I think! Nom x

  4. your kabocha looks so tasty! I really like those quorn fillets too although haven’t had any in a while. I’m on the fence when it comes to nutritional yeast. I think I’d really have to experiment with different recipes in order to decide. Your photos look fab :-) xxxx

  5. I love nutritional yeast, I heap the stuff onto salads. I am excited for Christmas, but I hate that the build up starts so early, it ruins it!

I haven’t commented in so long, but I always read your blog and love it! I totally understand what you mean about looking back at the photos that you take during the week, it’s really lovely isn’t it? I adore nutritional yeast, I didn’t realize you could get it in England! Certainly going to be buying the stuff when I return for university next year. Love the weight-lifting gloves, so legit.

The Christmas decorations are crazy, but you can find Christmas candy in stores from the beginning of September, so it’s not really that surprising, is it? :)

  7. Yes to heaps and heaps of kabocha! How many do you go through in a week? I’m always feeling embarrassed when buying my stash at the farmers market and having the vendors give me strange looks :D .

Regarding the questions it’s a tie for me for both of them. I do like nutritional yeast but only in reasonable amounts – no “cheesy” sauces using tablespoon upon tablespoon of it.

I’m looking forward to Christmas but not so much buying presents. I’ll most likely make a run to the stores the day before Christmas eve like during the past years even though I planned on giving more homemade gifts.

  8. I’m so excited for Christmas! I’ve started my present shopping in a bid to spread out the cost (and stress), and have a folder filled with DIY decorations saved on my computer!

I have a huuuge butternut squash in my cupboard, and I think I will finally have time this evening to hack it up and bake it, yay! I’m thinking soup, with spinach stirred through. Ooh and maybe some nutritional flakes, as you have reminded me I have a tub in my cupboard!

Have a lovely week, darling xxx

  9. You definitely strength train your arms when cutting squash! I can’t believe the decs are up already, at least they could have waited until after bonfire night!

  10. My local Waitrose is yet to get Kabocha in, I could cry…I have the biggest craving for it.

  11. TBH, I just avoid extra yeast…it sort of freaks me out for no explicable reason.

Christmas decoration (and a fully bedazzled tree) out in Covent Garden already which sort of surprised me but then didn’t. I thought I heard Christmas songs in a shop today but I suspect that it was my imagination in retrospect!

So excited for Christmas. I get worse every year.

  12. All of your food looks so good! Especially the kabocha…I have yet to come across one this Fall! I am absolutely not a fan of nutritional yeast. I tried it once and thought it was the grossest thing ever. I love real cheese! What I don’t love is Christmas sneaking its way into every location already. It’s too soon!
